Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Jonathan Romero ("Kached", "we", "us") collects, uses and shares information when you use the Kached mobile app and https://kached.app. By using Kached you agree to this policy.

The short version

Kached is a place to track, rate and share the things you love. We collect the account details you give us and the content you create, and we use them to run and improve the app. We use privacy-respecting analytics and crash reporting to understand how the app is used and to fix problems. We don't sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we don't currently show you ads. You can delete your account at any time from the app settings or by contacting us.

Information we collect

Account information

When you sign up we collect your email address and the username and display name you choose. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive a basic identifier and the email address associated with that account (Sign in with Apple may relay a private, app-specific email). You may optionally add a profile photo, bio and other profile details.

Content you create

We store the content you add to Kached, including posts, reviews, ratings, comments, lists, journal entries, tracked items and library status, shared pages, any photos or GIFs you attach, and any catalogue contributions you submit (such as proposed items, collections, page blocks, tags or edits). Some of this content is public or visible to other users by design (see Public content below).

Imports you choose to provide

If you use our optional import tools, you provide data from third-party services, exports, or connected accounts (for example, a Steam library or Letterboxd export), which we match against our catalogue to populate your library. We only access what you explicitly import.

Push notifications

If you enable notifications, we store a push notification token provided by your device so we can deliver notifications and other account-related updates you choose to receive.

Device & log data

To operate and secure the service we process limited technical data such as your IP address, device and app version, and basic request logs. Our infrastructure providers generate these logs as a normal part of serving the app.

Analytics & crash reporting

We use a small set of trusted tools to understand how Kached is used and to find and fix problems:

  • PostHog— product analytics. It records in-app events (such as screens viewed and features used) along with device and app information and a randomly generated identifier, so we can improve the app. We don't use it for advertising (privacy policy).
  • Sentry — crash and error reporting. When the app hits an error, it sends a diagnostic report including the error, a stack trace and device and app state, which helps us fix bugs (privacy policy).

You can opt out of product analytics at any time from the app's settings. Essential crash reporting and security logging may continue so we can keep the service running.

Kached does not currently display advertisements or use advertising identifiers for cross-app tracking. If we introduce advertising in the future, we will update this Privacy Policy before doing so. The website uses only the essential local storage needed to remember your light/dark theme preference.

How we use information

  • To create and maintain your account and profile.
  • To provide core features — tracking, rating, reviewing, lists, journaling, the social feed, notifications and recommendations.
  • To deliver the content you and others post.
  • To send transactional messages such as sign-in codes and important service notices.
  • To keep Kached safe — preventing abuse, enforcing our Terms, and responding to reports and blocks.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

How we share information

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only in these cases:

Other users

Content you make public — your profile, posts, reviews, ratings, public lists and shared pages — is visible to other users and may appear in feeds, search and recommendations.

Legal and safety

We may disclose information if required by law, or where we believe it is necessary to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, the public or Kached.

Public content

Kached is a social product. Your username, profile and the content you choose to share publicly can be seen by anyone using the app, and may be cached or copied by others once shared. The visibility of certain profile information, libraries, lists and activity depends on your privacy settings. Use the app's visibility controls (such as friends-only or private lists and pages) when you want something kept limited, and don't post anything you wouldn't want to be public.

Catalogue content

The titles, artwork and metadata in Kached's catalogue come from third-party data sources. That catalogue data is not personal information about you. For the full list of sources and the attributions they require, see the Data sources & attributions section of our Terms.

Data retention & deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from the app settings, or by emailing support@kached.app. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile and associated content from the active Kached service. Contributions you made to the shared catalogue (such as items, collections or edits) may remain part of the catalogue in de-identified form. Copies of deleted information may remain in encrypted backups for a limited period, or where retention is required by law, before being automatically removed.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

Children

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account, and Kached is not intended for children under 13 — we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Certain content and features are restricted to users who confirm they are 18 or older, and adult content is hidden by default. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Your rights & choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise most of these directly in the app, or by emailing support@kached.app. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

U.S. residents

We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we don't process it for targeted advertising. If you are a California resident, you may request access to or deletion of your information as described above.

EU / UK / EEA residents

If you are in the EEA or UK, we process your information to provide the service under our agreement with you, to pursue our legitimate interests in operating and securing Kached, and to comply with legal obligations. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

International data transfers

Kached is operated from the United States. Your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States and other countries where we or our service providers operate.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use Kached after an update means you accept the revised policy.
